Chris Davenport
As a child, I realized stories fueled everything.
As soon as I could write, I was writing screenplays. As soon as I could work a camera, I was making films. I've worked on feature films in Hollywood and produced documentaries around the country.
I fell into the nonprofit storytelling world and haven't looked back.
I love crafting the authentic human story. The real pleasure comes when an audience responds to a story I've shaped, when the right words and images and pacing move a room. I'm fascinated by what makes people care, and how a single moment can do what a page of facts can't.
That curiosity became my life's work.
I founded the Nonprofit Storytelling Conference to put it in front of as many fundraisers as possible, and I wrote Stories That Raise Money to hand them the method directly. I believe our world revolves around stories, and that stories are a form of global currency.
One of my favorite storytellers is...
...Julius K Nyerere. He set out to win independence for Tanganyika, now Tanzania, then under British rule. Many expected it to come through violence. Instead, Nyerere traveled the country telling stories, getting people to invest in one larger story: the story of independence. What he accomplished with story still amazes me.
